Surah al nasr in english (The Victory) is one of the shortest surahs in the Quran, consisting of only three verses, It was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) after the فتح of Mecca in 630 CE, The surah celebrates the victory of the Muslims and calls for glorification, praise, and seeking forgiveness from Allah.

Surah an-Nasr is one of the short Madinan surahs, It was revealed after the فتح of Mecca and is equivalent to a quarter of the Quran, This surah foretells the victory and conquest achieved by the Muslims in the فتح of Mecca and calls for glorification, praise, and seeking forgiveness from Allah.

إِذَا جَاءَ نَصۡرُ اللَّهِ وَالۡفَتۡحُ

When comes the Help of Allah, and victory.

وَرَاَيْتَ النَّاسَ يَدْخُلُونَ فِي دِينِ اللَّهِ أَفۡواجًا

And you see the people entering the religion of Allah in multitudes.

فَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ وَاسْتَغْفِرْهُ ۖ إِنَّهُ كَانَ تَوَّابًا

Then exalt [Him] with praise of your Lord and seek His forgiveness, for indeed He is ever Accepting of repentance.

Virtues of Surah an-Nasr

After reviewing Surah al nasr in english, we will address the virtue of this great surah through these points:

1- The Last Complete Surah to be Revealed

According to Ubaydullah ibn Abdillah ibn Utba, Ibn Abbas said, “Do you know the last complete surah that was revealed in the Quran?” I said, “Yes, it is ‘When comes the Help of Allah, and Victory,'” He said, “You are correct.”

2- Equivalent to a Quarter of the Quran

Abu Hurairah narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, “Have you not seen the surah that was revealed to me tonight? It is equivalent to a quarter of the Quran.”

3- Also known as the Farewell Surah

This is because it is the last surah that was revealed to the Prophet (peace be upon him) before his death.

4- Foretells the Mass Entry of People into Islam

Allah تعالى says, “And you see the people entering the religion of Allah in multitudes.”

5- Encourages Glorification, Praise, and Forgiveness of Allah

Allah تعالى says, “Then exalt [Him] with praise of your Lord and seek His forgiveness.”

1- Facilitates the Opening of Conquests

Abu Hurairah narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, “Whoever recites ‘When comes the Help of Allah, and Victory’ is as if he witnessed the فتح of Mecca with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him).”

2- Facilitates Provision

Ibn Umar narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to recite in Fajr prayer: “When comes the Help of Allah, and Victory,” “Say, He is Allah, [who is] One,” and “The Disbelievers.”

3- Repels Satan

Abu Hurairah narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, “Whoever recites ‘When comes the Help of Allah, and Victory,’ ‘Say, O disbelievers,’ and ‘Say, He is Allah, [who is] One,’ after every prayer after he finishes the salam, Allah will make his body forbidden from the Fire.

Surah al nasr tafsir

In the following points, we explain Tafsir of Surah Al-Nasr:

  1. When comes the Help of Allah, and Victory

إِذَا: Conditional particle (if)

جَاءَ: Past tense verb (came)

نَصْرُ اللَّهِ: Subject (the help of Allah), raised and marked with dammah

وَالْفَتْحُ: Conjunction (and) + subject (the conquest), raised and marked with dammah

Meaning:

When the help of Allah and the conquest come.

  1. And you see the people entering the religion of Allah in multitudes

وَرَأَيْتَ: Past tense verb (you saw), built on sukūn due to its conjunction with the waw of جواب

النَّاسَ: Direct object (the people), accusative and marked with fatḥah

يَدْخُلُونَ: Present tense verb (they enter), accusative and marked with fatḥah, with the hidden subject “they”

فِي دِينِ اللَّهِ: Prepositional phrase (in the religion of Allah), متعلقان بيدخلون

أَفْوَاجًا: حال (adverbial phrase), accusative and marked with fatḥah

Meaning:

And you see the people entering the religion of Allah in multitudes,

  1. Then exalt [Him] with praise of your Lord and seek His forgiveness, for indeed He is ever Accepting of repentance

فَسَبِّحْ: Imperative verb (glorify), built on sukūn due to its conjunction with the فاء of أمر

بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ: Prepositional phrase (with the praise of your Lord), متعلقان بسبح

وَاسْتَغْفِرْهُ: Imperative verb (and seek His forgiveness), built on sukūn due to its conjunction with the waw of جواب

إِنَّهُ: Particle of confirmation and نصب

كَانَ: Past tense verb (He was)

تَوَّابًا: Predicate nominative (Ever Accepting of repentance), accusative and marked with fatḥah

Meaning:

Then exalt [Him] with praise of your Lord and seek His forgiveness, for indeed He is ever Accepting of repentance.
