In the beginning, what is the meaning of zakat? Zakat is an obligatory thing for every Muslim, Zakat is mandatory charitable that every Muslim is required to donate from his wealth. It is calculated according to your wealth and assets, and there are specific rules for every topic such as cars. These rules were mentioned in the holy Quran and also some of them were mentioned in the hadith, so those rules were collected in many books to make it easier for people to know more about zakat and how much they will pay for it from their wealth.
Do I Pay Zakat on My Car?
The answer of this question is divided in two cases: Your personal car and Car used for business purposes.
Your personal car
If you buy this car for your personal trips, you won’t pay zakat for it because all personal things aren’t in the rules of zakat. But if you will use it for any business purpose, this is different and you will pay for it. All your personal assets such as buildings, apartments, and cars aren’t included in the rules of zakat.
Car Used for Business Purposes
If you bought it for the purpose of trading, where you sell it and buy another car with its price… and so on, then this car is subject to zakat on trade goods. If its price has reached the nisab by itself or with what is added to it from other money or trade goods and a year has passed, then zakat is obligatory on it. But if you rent it, then zakat is obligatory on what remains in your possession of its rent if it reaches the nisab or completes the nisab with other money of yours.
At the end of this topic,Muslim must know that zakat is obligatory for every Muslim that has wealth. Also, Muslims must give to people that need this money to help them to live a better life, and this is one of our Islamic teachings that the rich give to the poor to help them. If you don’t know how to calculate your zakat you can ask any sheikh that has knowledge about this case to calculate your zakat.
